Our Take

Ah, KISS. The band that brought us iconic face paint, pyrotechnics, and enough hairspray to make a hair metal band blush. But what happens when they ditch the masks and makeup? Enter "KISS Unmasked," the band's 1980 album that sees them trading their signature look for a more stripped-back sound.

Gone are the days of Gene Simmons spitting blood and breathing fire; instead, we get tracks like "Shandi" and "Is That You?" that showcase a more vulnerable side of the band. But fear not, KISS fans, there are still plenty of anthemic choruses and killer guitar riffs to sink your teeth into.

While "KISS Unmasked" may not have the same bombastic energy as some of the band's earlier work, it's a refreshing change of pace that highlights their versatility as musicians. Tracks like "Talk to Me" and "Tomorrow" show a softer, more melodic side to KISS that we don't often get to see.

So, if you're a die-hard KISS fan who can't get enough of their over-the-top theatrics, "KISS Unmasked" may not be for you. But if you're willing to give the band a chance without their trademark personas, you might just find a new appreciation for their music. After all, even rock gods need to take off the mask every now and then.

About the artist

KISS

Ah, KISS - the legendary rock band that needs no introduction, yet here we are, introducing them anyway. Formed in New York City in 1973, KISS quickly rose to fame with their iconic makeup, outlandish costumes, and unforgettable live performances. Known for their bombastic stage presence and catchy anthems, KISS has become one of the most recognisable bands in the world. With their larger-than-life personas, including the likes of Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, KISS has cultivated a devoted fan base that spans generations. Their music, a blend of hard rock and heavy metal, is as loud and in-your-face as their signature makeup. From classics like "Detroit Rock City" to power ballads like "Beth", KISS has a catalogue of hits that have stood the test of time. But don't be fooled by their over-the-top theatrics - beneath the face paint and pyrotechnics lies a band of incredibly talented musicians. With Gene Simmons's growling bass lines, Paul Stanley's soaring vocals, and Ace Frehley's blistering guitar solos, KISS is more than just a gimmick - they're a force to be reckoned with. So whether you're a die-hard KISS Army member or a casual fan looking to rock and roll all night, KISS has something for everyone. So grab your platform boots, throw up your devil horns, and join us as we dive into the wild and wonderful world of KISS. Just remember to keep your eardrums intact - these guys don't do things by halves.
