Our Take

Puddle of Mudd's latest offering, "Kiss the Machine," is a mixed bag of rock anthems and forgettable filler tracks. Lead singer Wes Scantlin's raspy vocals are as polarizing as ever, sounding like a cross between a dying cat and a drunken sailor trying to sing karaoke. The album kicks off with the hard-hitting track "Rusty Chains," which showcases the band's knack for catchy guitar riffs and infectious melodies. However, the momentum quickly fizzles out as we are subjected to the snooze-fest that is "Love on the Rocks," a melodramatic ballad that is as cheesy as it is cliche. One of the standout tracks on the album is "Blackout," a high-energy banger that is sure to get listeners headbanging along. The relentless drums and wailing guitars create a sense of urgency that is missing from the rest of the album. Unfortunately, "Kiss the Machine" suffers from a lack of consistency, with some tracks feeling uninspired and uninspiring. The production is slick and polished, but it can't mask the fact that the band is treading familiar ground. Overall, "Kiss the Machine" is a decent effort from Puddle of Mudd, but it lacks the innovation and boldness that we have come to expect from the band. Fans of the group will find something to enjoy here, but for everyone else, it may be best to give this one a miss.
