Our Take

Asylums, the Southend-on-Sea quartet that were tipped for big things, have finally released their debut album "Killer Brain Waves". And let me tell you, it's like a whirlwind of frenetic energy, hooks that stick in your brain like glue, and lyrics that make you think while you're bopping your head. The album kicks off with "Second Class Sex", a blistering track that sets the tone for the rest of the album. It's like a punch to the gut, in the best way possible. Lead singer Luke Branch's vocals are a perfect mix of snarl and sweetness, and the rest of the band backs him up with tight, infectious instrumentals. Tracks like "Joy in a Small Wage" and "Necessary Appliances" show the band's knack for catchy, anthemic choruses that are sure to get stuck in your head for days. But don't be fooled by the poppy hooks – there's a dark undercurrent to the lyrics that adds depth to the songs. Overall, "Killer Brain Waves" is a solid debut from Asylums. It's fun, it's quirky, and it's a little bit off-kilter – just like the band themselves. So if you're looking for some infectious indie rock with a bit of bite, look no further than Asylums. You won't be disappointed.
