Our Take
Our Take
History has seen some strange musical collaborations; Mick Jagger and David Bowie, Brian Eno and David Byrne, and now, Marianne Beate Kieland, Lofoten Voices, Minensemblet, and Ketil Bjornstad. The result? Lofotoratoriet, a daring, avant-garde masterpiece that defies genre, expectations, and sometimes even reason.
From the first haunting notes of "Prolog: Lofotdrøm" to the final echoes of "Epilog: Havet," this album takes you on a musical journey through the rugged landscapes of the Lofoten Islands in Norway. Kieland's ethereal vocals blend seamlessly with the powerful harmonies of Lofoten Voices, while Minensemblet's experimental instrumentation adds a touch of chaos to the mix.
Bjornstad's composition is both intricate and unpredictable, weaving together elements of jazz, classical, and folk music in a way that is both mesmerizing and disorienting. At times, it feels like you're floating on a cloud, only to be abruptly brought back down to earth by a jarring cacophony of sound.
This is not an album for the faint of heart. It's challenging, it's strange, and it's unlike anything you've ever heard before. But for those willing to take the plunge, Lofotoratoriet offers a truly unique listening experience that will linger in your mind long after the final notes have faded away.
