Our Take

Album Review: You Blew It! - Keep Doing What You're Doing In their latest offering, you'd be forgiven for thinking that You Blew It! were actually onto something with their album title "Keep Doing What You're Doing." Unfortunately, this record falls flat faster than a deflated balloon at a children's party. The Florida-based band's attempt at emo revival falls short, wavering between uninspired lyrics and lacklustre melodies. Tracks like "Award of the Year Award" and "Match & Tinder" come across as half-baked attempts at recapturing the glory days of mid-2000s emo, but end up feeling more like a parody than a tribute. Lead singer Tanner Jones's vocals lack the emotion and depth needed to carry the weight of the band's self-pitying lyrics, resulting in an overall sense of disconnect between the listener and the music. While there are glimpses of potential in tracks like "You & Me & Me" and "House Address," they are ultimately drowned out by the album's overwhelming sense of mediocrity. It's a shame, really, as You Blew It! have shown promise in the past, but "Keep Doing What You're Doing" feels more like a step backwards than a step forward. In conclusion, if you're looking for a dose of nostalgia with a modern twist, you're better off revisiting your old Taking Back Sunday CDs than subjecting yourself to this lacklustre offering from You Blew It!.
