Our Take
R.E.M.'s live session at KCRW Studio in Santa Monica, CA on the 3rd of April, 1991 was a delightful romp through some of the band's most beloved hits. From the opening chords of "Losing My Religion" to the closing notes of "It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)," the energy was palpable and the performance was top notch. Frontman Michael Stipe was in fine form, his signature quirky dance moves and enigmatic stage presence captivating the audience from start to finish. The band as a whole sounded tight and polished, delivering faithful renditions of their songs while still managing to inject some fresh energy into the performance. Highlights of the set included a haunting rendition of "Everybody Hurts" and an explosive version of "Orange Crush" that had the crowd jumping and singing along. The band also treated fans to a few deep cuts, including a stunning acoustic version of "Country Feedback" that showcased the band's versatility and musical prowess. Overall, R.E.M.'s performance at KCRW Studio was a reminder of why they were one of the biggest bands of the 90s. With their infectious melodies, heartfelt lyrics, and engaging stage presence, they proved once again that they are a force to be reckoned with in the world of alternative rock.
