Our Take
Our Take
Ah, 'Just Like Heaven - A Tribute To The Cure'. Now, there's a title that promises a Dracula-esque mix of goth vibes and Wild West showdowns. Sadly, this album is neither quite as spooky nor as rootin' tootin' as that mental image. But fear not, dear listener, for this purple vinyl extravaganza still packs a punch that would make Robert Smith proud.
Featuring a lineup of various artists, from indie darlings to seasoned pros, this tribute album covers all the hits and more. Expect to hear 'Friday I'm In Love' reimagined as a psychedelic acid trip and 'Lovesong' transformed into a reggae-infused jam session. The Cure's trademark melancholy is present and correct, but with a fresh twist that keeps things interesting.
The standout track has to be Florence + The Machine's haunting rendition of 'Pictures of You'. Florence Welch's ethereal vocals float effortlessly over a bed of shimmering synths, creating a mesmerising soundscape that will linger in your mind long after the needle lifts off the record.
In conclusion, 'Just Like Heaven - A Tribute To The Cure' may not transport you to a gothic saloon in the Old West, but it will certainly take you on a musical journey that is well worth the ride. So grab your favourite purple vinyl, pour yourself a glass of red wine, and let the music cast its spell over you. Cheers to The Cure, and cheers to this delightful tribute album.
