Our Take
Our Take
IDLES' latest offering, Joy As An Act Of Resistance, is a tsunami of raw energy and untamed emotion that crashes over you like a bulldozer made of passion and angst. The album kicks off with the punchy "Colossus," a track that hits you square in the face like an angry chip butty hurled across a crowded pub.
From there, we are treated to a rollercoaster of sound and emotion, as lead singer Joe Talbot spits out lyrics with the ferocity of a rabid squirrel on double espressos. Tracks like "Never Fight A Man With A Perm" and "Danny Nedelko" showcase the band's knack for combining frenetic punk energy with socially conscious lyrics that hit harder than a soggy crumpet to the head.
But it's not all doom and gloom with IDLES, as they also deliver some moments of pure joy and catharsis that will have you dancing around your living room like a loon on a pogo stick. The anthemic "Love Song" and the uplifting "Great" are like a warm hug from a drunk mate at closing time.
Overall, Joy As An Act Of Resistance is a wild ride that will leave you emotionally drained, covered in sweat, and grinning from ear to ear. It's like a pint of warm ale on a cold winter's day – it might not be to everyone's taste, but for those who appreciate its unique blend of fury and heart, it's a damn good time. Cheers, IDLES, for another banger of an album.

About the artist
IDLES
Ah, IDLES, the Bristol-based quintet that has been causing quite a stir in the music world. With their raw energy and unapologetic lyrics, these lads have managed to capture the hearts of critics and fans alike. Frontman Joe Talbot serves as the band's fearless leader, delivering powerful vocals with a side of cheeky banter. His stage presence is nothing short of electric, keeping audiences captivated from start to finish. The rest of the band - Mark Bowen, Lee Kiernan, Adam Devonshire, and Jon Beavis - provide the perfect backdrop for Talbot's earnest ramblings. Their tight-knit chemistry is evident in every note they play, creating a sound that is unmistakably IDLES. Their debut album, "Brutalism," catapulted them into the spotlight, earning them rave reviews and a dedicated following. Tracks like "Well Done" and "Mother" showcase their ability to mix punk sensibilities with heartfelt emotion, creating a truly unique sound. But it wasn't until their sophomore release, "Joy as an Act of Resistance," that they truly cemented their place in the music world. With songs like "Danny Nedelko" and "Danny Nedelko," they tackle important social issues with a fierce intensity that is impossible to ignore. In a sea of cookie-cutter bands, IDLES stand out as a beacon of authenticity and passion. Their music is a call to arms, urging listeners to embrace their flaws and stand up for what they believe in. So do yourself a favour and give IDLES a listen - you won't be disappointed.
