About the artist
Jose Roberto Trio
If we could photocopy the sound of sunshine, it would come out sounding like Jose Roberto Bertrami's melodies. The Brazilian keyboardist, composer, and arranger was a key figure in the country's jazz fusion scene, blending bossa nova with funk and samba with soul. Born in São Paulo in 1946, Bertrami cut his teeth with the influential group Trio Mocotó before joining the groundbreaking jazz-funk outfit Azymuth in the early 1970s. Known for his impeccable sense of timing and his ability to craft infectious grooves that stick to the ribs, Bertrami was a master of his craft. His keyboard work with Azymuth helped define the group's signature sound, blending jazz harmonies with funky rhythms and a healthy dose of Brazilian swing. Tracks like "Jazz Carnival" and "Dear Limmertz" are perfect examples of Bertrami's genius, with their infectious hooks and irresistible grooves. Bertrami's influence can be heard in the music of countless artists across genres, from jazz and funk to electronic and hip-hop. His impact on the global music scene is immeasurable, and his legacy continues to inspire new generations of musicians to this day. Jose Roberto Bertrami may have left us in 2012, but his music lives on, a testament to his talent and his enduring spirit. Rest in groove, maestro.
