Our Take
Our Take
Magic Malik Jazz Association's latest album is a whimsical journey through the eclectic mind of jazz extraordinaire Malik Mezzadri. With his signature blend of funk, jazz, and world music influences, Mezzadri takes his listeners on a wild ride that is anything but predictable.
The album kicks off with the funky groove of "Magic Potion," setting the tone for the rest of the record. Mezzadri's virtuoso flute playing takes center stage, weaving in and out of intricate musical landscapes with ease. Tracks like "Groovy Gravy" and "Funky Monkey" showcase Mezzadri's playful side, with infectious rhythms and catchy melodies that will have you grooving along in no time.
But it's not all fun and games on this album. Mezzadri delves into deeper, more introspective territory on tracks like "Reflections" and "Inner Peace." His thoughtful compositions and lyrical flute solos invite the listener to sit back, relax, and contemplate the mysteries of the universe.
Overall, Magic Malik Jazz Association's latest offering is a delightful mix of funky grooves, soulful melodies, and thought-provoking moments. Mezzadri's unique blend of styles and virtuoso musicianship make this album a must-listen for any jazz aficionado. So grab yourself a glass of magic potion, sit back, and let Magic Malik take you on a musical adventure you won't soon forget.

About the artist
Magic Malik
Magic Malik is not your average jazz flautist. With a career spanning over two decades, this French musician has consistently pushed the boundaries of his instrument, blending influences from hip-hop, electronic music, and traditional African rhythms to create a sound that is uniquely his own. Born in Paris in the late 1970s, Malik Mezzadri began his musical journey at a young age, studying classical flute before discovering jazz and improvisation. It wasn't long before he caught the attention of the French jazz scene, playing with luminaries such as Laurent Cugny, Steve Coleman, and Ornette Coleman. But it was his work with the legendary Fela Kuti that truly catapulted Magic Malik to international fame. As a member of Fela's band in the early 2000s, Malik's distinctive flute playing added a new dimension to the Afrobeat sound, earning him a reputation as one of the most innovative musicians in the genre. Since then, Magic Malik has released several critically acclaimed albums under his own name, including his latest offering, "Tranz Denied," which showcases his talents as a composer and bandleader. Blending complex rhythms, lush harmonies, and infectious grooves, Malik's music is a sonic journey that defies categorization. Whether performing with his long-standing band The Soul Band, collaborating with electronic producers like Mocky and Rone, or bringing his unique sound to film soundtracks and multimedia projects, Magic Malik continues to push the boundaries of what is possible with a simple wooden flute. With his virtuosic playing, boundary-pushing compositions, and infectious energy, Magic Malik is truly a force to be reckoned with in the world of contemporary jazz music.
