From the opening track, it's clear that BITTER FRUIT is trying to mix genres in an ambitious way. The problem is, it all just feels a bit...muddled. One minute you're grooving along to some funky bass lines, and the next you're being hit over the head with some heavy-handed lyrics. Vocalist Sarah Sours definitely has a unique voice, but it's often drowned out by the cacophony of competing instruments. And let's talk about those lyrics for a second. I mean, "It Gets Worse" is a pretty bleak album title, and unfortunately, the music seems to reflect that vibe. There are definitely moments of brilliance on this album, particularly on tracks like "Bitter Always Tastes Sweet" where the band manages to strike the perfect balance between their various influences. But these moments are all too rare, leaving the listener craving more consistency. In the end, BITTER FRUIT's "It Gets Worse" is an album that shows flashes of potential, but ultimately fails to deliver a truly satisfying listening experience. Hopefully, they can take this feedback on board and come back stronger on their next release.
