Our Take
Our Take
In their debut album, "Is This Me Forever," MEAN GIRLS seem to have forgotten the golden rule of Spinal Tap: "It's such a fine line between stupid and clever." Unfortunately, this album falls squarely on the side of the former.
The opening track, "High School Drama," sets the tone for the rest of the album with its cringe-inducing lyrics and lacklustre production. It's as if the band took every cliché from '00s teen movies and tried to turn it into a song. Spoiler alert: it didn't work.
Throughout the album, MEAN GIRLS attempt to blend pop-punk with emo, but instead of creating a unique sound, they end up sounding like a watered-down version of Avril Lavigne. And not even early Avril, but like, 2011 Avril.
The lead singer's vocals are passable at best, but it's clear they're trying to compensate for lack of range with excessive autotune. It's a shame, because underneath all the overproduction and forgettable hooks, there might be some potential.
Overall, "Is This Me Forever" is a forgettable debut from a band trying too hard to be edgy and relevant. Maybe they'll find their stride on their next album, but for now, MEAN GIRLS definitely don't make the cut. Time to go back to the drawing board, lads.

About the artist
MeanGirls
In a music scene dominated by flashy pop stars and brooding indie darlings, MEAN GIRLS stands out like a neon pink feather boa in a sea of black leather jackets. With their infectious blend of bubblegum pop and razor-sharp wit, this up-and-coming group is here to show the world that not all girl bands are created equal. Fronted by the irrepressible lead singer, Becky "Blondie Bombshell" Smith, MEAN GIRLS is a force to be reckoned with. Smith's powerhouse vocals are equal parts Courtney Love snarl and Ariana Grande sweetness, making for a truly unique listening experience. Backed by a band of talented misfits, including guitarist Johnny "The Shredder" Jones and drummer Molly "Thundersticks" Thompson, MEAN GIRLS are a tight-knit unit that knows how to deliver the goods on stage. Their debut album, "Plastic Hearts and Broken Dreams," is a glitter-drenched romp through the highs and lows of love, friendship, and navigating the cutthroat world of the music industry. Tracks like "Mean Girl Anthem" and "Rebel Hearts" showcase the band's knack for catchy hooks and cheeky lyrics, while ballads like "Broken Promises" reveal a more vulnerable side to their songwriting. With their undeniable energy and killer live show, MEAN GIRLS are poised to take the music world by storm. So grab your feather boa, dust off your platforms, and get ready to dance the night away with the hottest new band on the block. MEAN GIRLS are here to stay, and they're not taking no for an answer.
