Our Take
Our Take
Mercyful Fate's fifth studio album, "In The Shadows," is a devilishly delightful romp through the realms of heavy metal and black magic. Frontman King Diamond's theatrics are in top form, as he cackles and wails his way through tales of demons, witches, and all things sinister.
From the eerie opening track, "Egypt," with its haunting guitar riffs and Hammer Horror-inspired lyrics, to the sinister groove of "The Bell Witch," the album oozes with dark, occult vibes. The band's impeccable musicianship shines through on tracks like "Shadows," with its intricate guitar solos and thundering drum work.
One of the standout moments on the album comes in the form of the epic "Legend of the Headless Rider," a 13-minute opus that takes the listener on a wild ride through a nightmarish landscape of ghostly apparitions and blood-curdling screams.
"In The Shadows" is a must-listen for fans of classic heavy metal and those who enjoy a touch of the macabre in their music. Mercyful Fate have once again proven why they are legends in the genre, delivering an album that is both chilling and exhilarating in equal measure. So grab your pentagram necklace, light some black candles, and prepare to be spellbound by the dark magic of Mercyful Fate. Verdict: 8.5/10
