YUSEF LATEEF & DOUG WATKINS Imagination! (Clear Vinyl)
Yusef Lateef and Doug Watkins team up on this reissue of their classic album, Imagination! And let me tell you, it's like a breath of fresh air in a room full of stale cigarette smoke.
The clear vinyl not only looks cool, but it also allows you to see the music spinning round and round, much like your mind will be doing after listening to these tunes.
Lateef's mastery of the saxophone is on full display here, weaving in and out of Watkins' smooth bass lines like a musical game of cat and mouse. The way these two play off each other is truly a thing of beauty, like watching a well-oiled machine in action.
Tracks like "Morning" and "The Blue Room" will have you tapping your feet and nodding your head in no time, while "Olive Blossom" takes you on a transcendental journey through sound.
Imagination! is like a musical rollercoaster that you'll want to ride again and again, each listen revealing new depths and intricacies. So grab a glass of your favourite tipple, put this record on, and let Yusef Lateef and Doug Watkins transport you to a world of pure musical bliss. Cheers!

About the artist
Yusef Lateef & Doug Watkins
YUSEF LATEEF: Hailed as a trailblazer in the world of jazz, Yusef Lateef was a true musical visionary. Born William Emanuel Huddleston in 1920, the multi-talented musician adopted the name Yusef Lateef after converting to Islam in 1950. Lateef's sound was a unique blend of jazz, Eastern music, and soulful melodies that captivated audiences worldwide. His mastery of various instruments, including the saxophone, flute, and oboe, solidified his place in music history. Lateef's discography is a treasure trove of experimental, genre-defying compositions that push the boundaries of conventional jazz. From his groundbreaking album "Eastern Sounds" to his collaborations with legendary artists like Cannonball Adderley, Lateef's influence on the jazz scene is undeniable. With his thought-provoking lyrics and soul-stirring melodies, Yusef Lateef continues to inspire generations of musicians and music lovers alike. DOUG WATKINS: Doug Watkins may not be a household name, but his impact on the world of jazz is undeniable. Born in Detroit in 1934, Watkins honed his skills as a bassist in the bustling jazz scene of the Motor City. His impeccable timing and soulful grooves earned him a reputation as one of the most sought-after musicians of his time. Watkins's collaborations with legendary artists like Hank Mobley and Art Blakey showcased his versatility and virtuosity on the bass. His melodic sensibility and rhythmic precision added depth and richness to the music of the era. Sadly, Watkins's life was cut short at the young age of 27, leaving behind a legacy that continues to resonate with jazz enthusiasts to this day. Doug Watkins may have been taken from us too soon, but his music lives on as a testament to his talent and passion for jazz.
