Our Take
Morbid Angel's "Illud Divinum Insanus" is a rollercoaster of a record that will leave you questioning your own sanity. From the erratic tempo changes to the unconventional song structures, this album is not for the faint of heart. The opening track, "Omni Potens," sets the tone for what's to come with its cacophony of sounds and blistering guitar riffs. It's a whirlwind of chaos that somehow manages to come together in a beautifully dissonant way. Tracks like "Blades for Baal" and "I Am Morbid" showcase the band's technical prowess, with complex drum patterns and shredding guitar solos that will leave you in awe. However, the real standout on this album is the controversial track "Destructos vs. the Earth/Attack," which incorporates elements of industrial and electronic music to create a truly unique listening experience. Despite some missteps on tracks like "Radikult," which veers a bit too far into experimental territory for some fans' liking, "Illud Divinum Insanus" is a bold and audacious statement from one of death metal's most iconic bands.
