Our Take

In a world full of musical overachievers, John Waite's "Ignition" is like that one mate at the pub who turns up with a guitar and insists on playing Wonderwall for the umpteenth time.

Featuring songs that range from forgettable to slightly less forgettable, Waite's latest effort is a mishmash of '80s nostalgia and heartfelt ballads that will have you reaching for the nearest box of tissues.

While tracks like "Missing You" may transport you back to a time when shoulder pads and mullets were all the rage, others like "Change" leave you wondering if you accidentally stumbled into a karaoke bar on a slow Tuesday night.

But fear not, dear listeners, for amidst the mediocrity lies a diamond in the rough. "Saturday Night" injects a much-needed dose of energy into an otherwise lacklustre album, making you want to grab a hairbrush microphone and belt out the chorus with reckless abandon.

So, does "Ignition" set the music world on fire? Not quite. But if you're a sucker for '80s power ballads and cheesy lyrics, this album might just be the guilty pleasure you never knew you needed. Cheers, John, for reminding us that sometimes, less is more.
