The xx - I See You
It seems like The xx have finally emerged from their moody teenage emo phase and are ready to embrace the joys of adulthood on their latest offering, "I See You."
Gone are the days of whispering sweet nothings in a dark, smoky room; instead, the band seems to have discovered the wonders of disco balls and dance floors. Tracks like "On Hold" and "Say Something Loving" are infectious little nuggets of electro-pop goodness that will have you busting out your best moves in no time.
But don't worry, the brooding intensity that made The xx so captivating in the first place is still very much present. Tracks like "Performance" and "Replica" showcase the band's ability to weave a tale of heartbreak and longing over a pulsating beat.
However, "I See You" is not without its missteps. The band's attempts at experimentation fall flat on tracks like "Lips" and "Brave for You," which feel more like throwaway B-sides than fully formed songs.
Overall, "I See You" is a welcome evolution for The xx. While not every track hits the mark, the band's willingness to push boundaries and try new things is refreshing to see. So grab your dancing shoes and get ready to party with The xx - just don't forget to pack a tissue or two for those inevitable post-clubbing feels. Verdict: 7.5/10
