Our Take

Chris Barrows' latest album, "Human Being," is a musical rollercoaster - and not necessarily in a good way.

The opening track, "Existential Crisis Blues," sets the tone for the rest of the album with its lacklustre lyrics and forgettable melody. It feels like Barrows is trying too hard to be deep and introspective, but instead comes off as a bit pretentious.

However, things start to look up with tracks like "Love Is a Four-Letter Word" and "Dancing in the Dark." These songs showcase Barrows' ability to craft catchy hooks and infectious rhythms that will have you tapping your feet in no time.

Unfortunately, the album takes a nosedive with the track "Emotional Rollercoaster," which feels like a cheap imitation of a Coldplay b-side. It's a shame to see Barrows fall into such cliches when he's capable of so much more.

Overall, "Human Being" is a mixed bag. While there are moments of brilliance scattered throughout the album, they are overshadowed by the lacklustre tracks that make up the majority of the record. Here's hoping that Barrows can find his footing and deliver a more cohesive and engaging album in the future.
