Our Take
Here we have Eli "Paperboy" Reed with his latest offering, "Hits and Misses." The title couldn't be more apt, as this record presents a mixed bag of, well, hits and misses. Reed's soulful vocals shine through on tracks like "Cut Ya Down" and "Bank Robber," demonstrating his undeniable talent and genuine passion for the music. The energy and emotion he puts into each note is palpable, making these songs stand out as true highlights of the album. However, not every track hits the mark. "Stoned Out of My Mind" feels a bit lacklustre, failing to leave a lasting impression like some of the stronger offerings on the record. Similarly, "Two Stroke Machine" falls flat, lacking the charisma and soul that Reed is capable of delivering. Overall, "Hits and Misses" showcases Reed's undeniable talent and passion for soul music, with some standout tracks that will no doubt have you bopping along. However, the album is let down by a few lacklustre moments that fail to live up to the potential of the artist.
