Our Take

Ah, the Dayglo Abortions, a band as controversial as their name suggests. "Hate Speech" is their latest offering, and it's a wild ride from start to finish. The Canadian punk legends certainly don't hold back on this album, delivering a barrage of unapologetically brash lyrics and blistering guitar riffs.

From the opening track, "Triggered", it's clear that the Dayglo Abortions have no intention of sugar-coating their message. With lyrics that tackle everything from political corruption to social injustice, this is definitely not an album for the faint-hearted. But behind the confrontational exterior lies a sharp wit and a keen sense of satire that sets the band apart from their peers.

Musically, "Hate Speech" is a messy, chaotic explosion of distorted guitars and pounding drums. The production may be rough around the edges, but that only adds to the raw energy of the record. Tracks like "Snowflake" and "SJW" are sonic assaults that hit you like a punch to the gut, leaving you reeling and wanting more.

In a sea of polished, cookie-cutter punk bands, the Dayglo Abortions stand out like a sore thumb. Love them or hate them, you can't deny their uncompromising attitude and infectious energy. "Hate Speech" may not be for everyone, but for those willing to take the plunge, it's a thrilling rollercoaster ride that's definitely worth the price of admission.

About the artist

Dayglo Abortions

Hailing from Canada's punk rock scene, Dayglo Abortions have been causing a ruckus for over four decades with their raw, politically charged music. With a name that screams rebellion, this band has become notorious for their unapologetic lyrics and loud, fast, and aggressive sound. Formed in 1979, Dayglo Abortions have proven themselves to be true veterans of the punk rock world. Their music is a chaotic blend of hardcore punk, metal, and even a touch of humour. With songs tackling subjects ranging from government corruption to social injustice, Dayglo Abortions are not afraid to speak their mind and challenge the status quo. Frontman Murray Acton's distinctive vocals, paired with the band's blistering guitar riffs and pounding drums, create a sonic assault that is impossible to ignore. Their live shows are legendary for their high energy and intense crowd participation, with fans moshing and stage diving at every opportunity. Despite facing controversy and censorship throughout their career, Dayglo Abortions have never shied away from controversy. Their music remains as relevant and powerful as ever, proving that punk rock is not just a genre, but a way of life. In a world that is increasingly divided, Dayglo Abortions are a beacon of rebellion and resistance, reminding us all to question authority and fight for what we believe in. Long live the Dayglo Abortions.
