Our Take

Ah, METALLICA. The band that knows how to turn it up to 11 and never look back. Their latest offering, 'Hardwired To Self-Destruct', is a rollercoaster of thrash metal madness that will leave you headbanging so hard, you'll need a neck brace by the end of it.

The Deluxe Edition is like a box of chocolates - you never know what you're gonna get, but you can bet it's gonna be heavy. With three discs chock full of face-melting riffage, pounding drums, and James Hetfield's signature growl, this album is a feast for the senses.

From the thundering opener "Hardwired" to the epic ballad "Halo On Fire", METALLICA proves they can still kick ass after all these years. And let's not forget their cover of Diamond Head's "Am I Evil?" - a true homage to their roots in the thrash metal scene.

But alas, even legends like METALLICA have their missteps. The overindulgent solos on tracks like "Confusion" may leave some listeners reaching for the skip button. And the production can be a bit muddy at times, making it hard to fully appreciate the intricacies of the band's playing.

Overall, 'Hardwired To Self-Destruct' is a solid addition to METALLICA's discography, but it may not be their magnum opus. Still, it's worth a listen for any metalhead looking for a dose of pure, unadulterated rock 'n' roll. Grab your air guitar and prepare to be blown away.

About the artist

Metallica

Metallica: The Fearsome Four Horsemen of Heavy Metal With their thunderous riffs, blistering solos, and anthemic choruses, Metallica have cemented their place as one of the most influential and iconic bands in the history of heavy metal. Formed in 1981 in Los Angeles, the band burst onto the scene with their debut album, "Kill 'Em All," in 1983, and never looked back. Led by the charismatic frontman James Hetfield, whose gravelly vocals and intense stage presence have become synonymous with the band's sound, Metallica quickly established themselves as masters of the thrash metal genre. Their second album, "Ride the Lightning," and third album, "Master of Puppets," are considered classics of the genre, showcasing the band's virtuosic musicianship and knack for crafting epic, multi-layered songs. But it was their breakout self-titled album, commonly known as "The Black Album," released in 1991, that propelled Metallica to mainstream success. Featuring hits like "Enter Sandman" and "Nothing Else Matters," the album showcased a more refined, radio-friendly sound while still retaining the band's trademark intensity. Over the years, Metallica have faced their fair share of controversies, from the infamous Napster lawsuit to the polarizing collaborations with Lou Reed and the misguided foray into the world of St. Anger snare drums. Despite these missteps, the band have persevered and continued to push the boundaries of metal music, earning them a dedicated global fanbase and a place in the rock 'n' roll hall of fame. So, grab your leather jacket, crank up the volume, and get ready to headbang with Metallica – the fearsome four horsemen of heavy metal.
