About the artist
Master Oogway with Henriette Eilertsen
Master Oogway is a Norwegian band that formed in 2017, named after the wise and enigmatic tortoise from the beloved Kung Fu Panda movies. The quartet consists of members Henry Torgersen on saxophone, Karl Bjorå on guitar, Trygve Waldemar Fiske on bass, and Martin Myhre Olsen on drums. Their sound is a mesmerizing blend of avant-garde jazz, post-rock, and free improvisation, creating a musical experience that is both intellectually stimulating and viscerally exciting. Henriette Eilertsen, the band's latest addition, brings her ethereal vocals and poetic lyricism to the mix, adding a new dimension to their already eclectic sound. With her background in experimental folk and electronica, Eilertsen's unique musical perspective complements Master Oogway's avant-garde sensibilities, resulting in a sonic landscape that is as haunting as it is beautiful. Their latest release, "Earth and Other Worlds", is a transcendent journey through sound, with each track unfolding like a chapter in a cosmic novel. From the hypnotic rhythms of "Turtlebird" to the abstract textures of "Sea Journey", Master Oogway with Henriette Eilertsen take listeners on a sonic adventure that is both challenging and deeply rewarding. With their intricate compositions and fearless approach to improvisation, the band pushes the boundaries of what modern jazz can be, creating music that is as boundary-pushing as it is emotionally resonant. Master Oogway with Henriette Eilertsen are a musical collective like no other, blending genre boundaries and defying expectations with their innovative approach to composition and performance. With their latest release, they have solidified their status as one of the most exciting and innovative bands in the contemporary jazz scene.
