Our Take
Our Take
Well, well, well, what do we have here? The enigmatic KILBURN & THE HIGH-ROADS have graced us with their presence once again, this time in the form of the Handsome (Turquoise Vinyl) album. And let me tell you, it's a right old musical rollercoaster.
From the get-go, you're hit with a wave of infectious energy that just doesn't let up. The band's signature blend of punk, funk, and a whole lotta attitude is on full display here, and it's impossible not to get swept up in it.
Lead singer Ian Dury's charismatic vocals are as captivating as ever, weaving tales of love, loss, and everything in between with his trademark wit and charm. The rest of the band members are firing on all cylinders too, delivering tight, groovy instrumentation that keeps you on your toes throughout.
Tracks like "Pretty Girls" and "Cranked up Really High" are instant classics, showcasing the band at their absolute best. But it's not all high-octane energy – there are moments of melancholy and introspection peppered throughout the album, adding depth and nuance to the overall experience.
In the end, Handsome (Turquoise Vinyl) is a must-listen for any fan of good, old-fashioned rock 'n' roll with a twist. KILBURN & THE HIGH-ROADS have once again proven why they're legends in the game, and this album is just further evidence of their enduring talent. Cheers to that!
