Our Take
Dinosaur Jr. have been shredding guitars and heaving out wistful, angsty lyrics for decades now, and their latest effort "Hand It Over" is no exception. In this album, the trio manages to blend their signature fuzzed-out sound with a more polished, almost pop sensibility. It's like watching your favourite grunge band finally grow up and get a real job, but still sneaking off to the pub for a pint on the weekends. Tracks like "I Don't Think So" and "Could You Be" showcase J Mascis' legendary guitar skills, while Lou Barlow's basslines and Murph's drumming provide a solid foundation for the noise. The standout track, "Alone", sees Mascis crooning about heartache and loneliness over a melancholic melody that will have you reaching for the tissues. But don't worry, Dinosaur Jr. haven't gone soft on us. Tracks like "I'm Insane" and "Never Bought It" still pack a punch, with Mascis's growling vocals and screeching solos reminding us that this band can still rock with the best of them. Overall, "Hand It Over" is a mature yet still exhilarating addition to Dinosaur Jr.'s discography. It's a testament to the band's enduring talent and ability to evolve without losing the raw, unbridled energy that made them famous in the first place. Long live Dinosaur Jr.!
