Hamish Imlach
Cheeky chappy, folk legend, larger than life - Hamish Imlach was the Scottish troubadour known for his razor-sharp wit and booming baritone voice. With a career spanning over five decades, Imlach left an indelible mark on the folk music scene with his irreverent songs and playful stage presence. Born in Calcutta, India in 1940, Imlach moved to Glasgow as a child and quickly fell in love with traditional Scottish music. He began performing in local folk clubs in the 1960s, where his unique blend of folk, blues, and comedy quickly won him a loyal following. Imlach's songs were a mix of biting social commentary, bawdy humor, and heartfelt ballads, all delivered with a twinkle in his eye and a pint in hand. His renditions of traditional Scottish songs were infused with his own irreverent style, earning him a reputation as a true original in the folk music world. Despite his larger-than-life persona, Imlach struggled with his own demons, battling alcoholism and health issues throughout his career. But his passion for music never wavered, and he continued to perform until his untimely death in 1996. A true iconoclast, Hamish Imlach's legacy lives on in the hearts of folk music fans worldwide. Whether he was crooning a heartfelt ballad or cracking a joke at the expense of the establishment, Imlach's irrepressible spirit and undeniable talent continue to inspire and delight music lovers of all ages.
