Ah, Middle of the Road. The band that's not quite revolutionary, but always seems to stick around like a stubborn rash. Their second volume of greatest hits is like a time machine back to a simpler, cheesier era of pop music.
The clear marble vinyl is a nice touch, giving the record a retro, almost tacky aesthetic that suits the band's sound perfectly. As for the music itself, well, it's exactly what you'd expect from a group that peaked in the early 70s. Catchy choruses, wistful lyrics, and enough cheesy keyboard solos to make even the most hardened music snob crack a smile.
Tracks like "Soley Soley" and "Yellow River" are guilty pleasure gems that will have you singing along despite your best efforts to resist. And let's not forget their signature hit, "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep," a song so infectiously catchy that it should come with a warning label.
