The Bar-Kays
The Bar-Kays, a legendary soul and funk band hailing from Memphis, Tennessee, have been lighting up the music scene since the 1960s. With their infectious grooves, tight horn sections, and electrifying live performances, these guys know how to get a party started. Formed in 1966, the Bar-Kays quickly made a name for themselves as one of the hottest acts in town. They gained widespread acclaim in the 1970s with hits like "Soul Finger" and "Son of Shaft," solidifying their status as pioneers of the funk movement. But it hasn't all been smooth sailing for the Bar-Kays. Tragedy struck in 1967 when four members of the band were killed in a plane crash that also claimed the life of soul music icon Otis Redding. Despite this devastating loss, the Bar-Kays persevered, rebuilding their lineup and continuing to churn out hit after hit. With a career spanning over five decades, the Bar-Kays have shown no signs of slowing down. Their music remains as fresh and exciting as ever, drawing in new fans and delighting longtime listeners alike.
