Our Take
Joe Strummer's performance at Glastonbury 1999 is a testament to the enduring power of punk rock and the indomitable spirit of one of its greatest champions. From the moment the legendary frontman took to the stage, clad in his trademark tattered jeans and leather jacket, he had the crowd in the palm of his hand. Strummer's gravelly vocals cut through the air like a knife, as he belted out classics from his days with The Clash and newer solo tracks with equal gusto. The chemistry between Strummer and his bandmates was electric, as they tore through the set with the precision and passion of a well-oiled machine. Highlights of the evening included rousing renditions of "London Calling," "Should I Stay or Should I Go," and "Rock the Casbah," which had the audience jumping and singing along at the top of their lungs.
