Our Take
Our Take
Soft As Snow's latest release, "Glass Body," is like taking a musical journey through a futuristic winter wonderland. The London-based duo brings together elements of dream pop, electronica, and industrial to create a sound that is as icy and ethereal as the album title suggests.
From the moment the opening track "Pink Magic" kicks in, you are transported to a world where shimmering synths dance over pulsing beats, creating a sense of otherworldly beauty. Lead singer Oda Egjar Starheim's haunting vocals soar over the intricate production, adding a layer of vulnerability to the cold, mechanical soundscape.
Tracks like "Snake" and "Black Birds" showcase Soft As Snow's ability to blend dark, brooding atmospheres with catchy, infectious melodies. The production is crisp and polished, with each layer of instrumentation adding depth and texture to the overall sonic landscape.
However, the album is not without its flaws. Some tracks veer a bit too far into experimental territory, losing the listener in a sea of disjointed sounds and jarring transitions. But when Soft As Snow hits their stride, as they do on standout tracks like "Cold Wave" and "Deep Wave," the result is truly mesmerising.
Overall, "Glass Body" is a bold and ambitious statement from a duo who are unafraid to push the boundaries of electronic music. While not every track hits the mark, there is enough here to keep you coming back for more. So bundle up, embrace the cold, and let Soft As Snow take you on a one-of-a-kind sonic adventure.
