Our Take
Genesis - Getting in Tune Vol. 2 7.4 After their groundbreaking first volume, Genesis is back with another dose of musical experimentation on "Getting in Tune Vol. 2." The album kicks off with the infectious track "Syncopated Funk," a fusion of prog rock and disco that will have you grooving in no time. The band's signature blend of intricate melodies and tight harmonies shines through on tracks like "Electric Dreams" and "Funky Fusion," reminding us why they're considered one of the pioneers of the genre. However, not every track on this album hits the mark. "Ballad of the Rubber Duck" feels out of place amongst the more energetic offerings, and "Acoustic Interlude" drags on a bit too long for its own good. But fear not, dear listener, for Genesis redeems themselves on the epic closer "The Cosmic Jam," a 12-minute journey through space and time that showcases the band's virtuosity and creativity in full force. Overall, "Getting in Tune Vol. 2" may not reach the heights of its predecessor, but it's still a solid effort from a band that continues to push the boundaries of what rock music can be. Genesis may be getting older, but they're still in tune with their music, and that's all that matters in the end.
