Our Take

Ah, Maurice John Vaughn's Generic Blues Album. If you're looking for something as original as a photocopy of a blank page, then look no further. This album is about as exciting as watching paint dry in black and white. Vaughn's lacklustre guitar riffs and uninspired vocals make for a record that falls flatter than a pancake left out in the rain. It's like he's sleepwalking through each track, hitting all the same tired cliches we've heard a thousand times before. The production on this album is as bland as a soggy biscuit, with every instrument sounding like it's been thrown together haphazardly in a half-hearted attempt at creating music. Even the most die-hard blues fan would struggle to find anything redeeming in this sorry excuse for an album. In a genre that prides itself on raw emotion and authenticity, Maurice John Vaughn's Generic Blues Album is a sad reminder of how far the blues has fallen. It's a shame, really, because Vaughn clearly has talent, but it's buried so deep beneath the sea of mediocrity that it might as well not even be there. If you're a fan of music that challenges and inspires, then this album is best left on the shelf. But if you're in need of something to help you drift off to sleep at night, then Maurice John Vaughn's Generic Blues Album might just do the trick. Just don't blame us if you wake up feeling more bored than ever before.
