Our Take
Right, so here we have The Sound From the Lions Mouth, the sophomore effort from post-punk band The Sound. Now, if you're expecting a roaring good time with this album, you might be left feeling a tad underwhelmed. From the get-go, it's clear that The Sound are trying to carve out their own unique sound within the post-punk genre. But let's be real, it's like they've taken a trip to the zoo and come back with a few lion roars and some meows from the kittens in the corner. Tracks like "Sense of Purpose" and "Fatal Flaw" certainly have some bite to them, with their angular guitars and brooding vocals. But it all feels a bit too calculated, like they're trying a bit too hard to be dark and mysterious. That being said, there are moments of brilliance on this album. "Resistance" is a real standout, with its pulsating rhythm and haunting melody. It's the kind of track that makes you want to don a leather jacket and brood in a dimly lit room. Overall, The Sound From the Lions Mouth is a solid effort from a band trying to find their place in the post-punk landscape.
