Our Take
As I settled down to delve into Frank Sinatra Vol. 2, I couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia for an era long gone. The legendary crooner himself graces us with his velvety vocals on this collection of timeless classics, transporting us back to a time when swing was king and the Rat Pack ruled the roost. Sinatra's smooth, effortless delivery shines on tracks like "Fly Me to the Moon" and "The Way You Look Tonight," his trademark swagger and charm evident in every note. The orchestral arrangements are lush and evocative, perfectly complementing Sinatra's rich tones. But it's not all roses and sunshine on this album. Some of the tracks veer dangerously close to schmaltzy territory, with Sinatra's over-the-top emoting coming off as a tad melodramatic. "My Way" in particular feels almost comically grandiose, with Sinatra's bombastic vocal delivery bordering on self-parody. Despite these missteps, Frank Sinatra Vol. 2 is a must-have for any fan of the Great American Songbook. Sinatra's talent as a vocalist is undeniable, and his charisma and charm still shine through even after all these years.
