Our Take

Ah, Wynton Kelly Plus Don Sleet, what a delightful combination of jazz greatness. These four classic albums showcase the incredible talent of these two musicians in all their glory.

First up, "Kelly Great" is a true masterpiece, with Kelly's piano skills shining brightly and Sleet's trumpet adding just the right amount of pizzazz. It's like diving into a pool of smooth jazz goodness.

"Kelly At Midnite" takes us on a journey through the midnight hours, with Kelly's mesmerising melodies and Sleet's soulful trumpet creating a dreamy atmosphere that's perfect for a late-night listening session.

"Wynton Kelly!" is a true testament to Kelly's versatility as a musician, with each track offering a unique blend of jazz styles that keep the listener on their toes. Sleet's trumpet work is equally impressive, adding a layer of depth to the already rich sound.

Finally, "All Members" brings the album to a satisfying close, with Kelly and Sleet's chemistry on full display. It's like a musical conversation between two old friends, each complementing the other in the most beautiful way possible.

Overall, Wynton Kelly Plus Don Sleet's four classic albums are a must-listen for any jazz enthusiast. So sit back, relax, and let the music transport you to a world of pure musical bliss. Cheers to these jazz legends!

About the artist

Wynton Kelly plus Don Sleet

WYNTON KELLY With his effortless piano-playing and incredible knack for improvisation, Wynton Kelly was a true force to be reckoned with in the jazz world. Born in Jamaica but raised in Brooklyn, Kelly's unique style blended elements of bebop and blues, creating a sound that was both fresh and timeless. He was a key player in Miles Davis' legendary quintet in the late 1950s, contributing to iconic albums like "Kind of Blue" and "Someday My Prince Will Come". Kelly's talent and charisma made him a favourite among musicians and fans alike, cementing his place in the jazz pantheon. DON SLEET Don Sleet may not be a household name, but his impact on the world of jazz is undeniable. As a talented trumpeter and composer, Sleet brought a fresh perspective to the genre, incorporating elements of hard bop and modal jazz into his work. His debut album, "All Members", released in 1961, showcased his impressive chops and innovative compositions. Despite his early success, Sleet's career was tragically cut short by his untimely death at the age of 35. However, his influence lives on through his recordings, which continue to inspire and captivate listeners to this day. Don Sleet may have been taken from us too soon, but his legacy will forever remain etched in the annals of jazz history.
