Our Take

Ah, EXPLODING BOY, the Swedish band with a name that could easily double as a superhero alias. Their latest album Four, however, falls short of any heroic feats.

From the get-go, it's as if they're trying too hard to be edgy and alternative. The opening track, "Boom Boom Boom Boom", feels like a poor attempt at capturing the essence of a 90s rave party gone wrong. The repetitive lyrics and lacklustre instrumentation do little to engage the listener.

As the album progresses, it becomes clear that EXPLODING BOY is stuck in a time warp, unable to break free from the confines of its own nostalgia. Tracks like "Powder Blue" and "Electric Eyes" sound like they could have easily been rejected b-sides from The Cure's Disintegration era.

The vocals, while not terrible, lack any real emotion or depth, leaving songs feeling hollow and uninspired. The production also feels muddy and over-processed, robbing the music of any potential raw energy it may have had.

Overall, EXPLODING BOY's Four is a forgettable and derivative effort that fails to leave a lasting impression. Perhaps it's time for this band to explore new sonic territories and break free from the chains of their influences. Until then, it's just another bland addition to the ever-growing sea of mediocrity in the alternative music scene.

About the artist

The Exploding Boy

With their infectious blend of indie rock and post-punk influences, EXPLODING BOY is the band that everyone is talking about. Hailing from Sweden, the five-piece group has been making waves in the music scene since their formation in 2006. Led by the charismatic frontman Johan Sjöblom, EXPLODING BOY's music is a thrilling mix of soaring melodies, driving rhythms, and thought-provoking lyrics. Drawing inspiration from bands like The Cure, Joy Division, and Interpol, they have carved out their own unique sound that is both familiar and fresh. Their latest album, "Alarms in Silence," is a testament to their musical evolution and growth as a band. Tracks like "Dark City Pt. II" and "Fireland" showcase their ability to create atmospheric, anthemic music that leaves a lasting impression on listeners. But it's not just their music that sets EXPLODING BOY apart – it's their electrifying live performances. Known for their energetic stage presence and dynamic interactions with the crowd, they never fail to put on a show that keeps fans coming back for more.
