Our Take
Our Take
In their latest offering, "Foreign Fields" Irish-American quartet This Is How We Fly have crafted an album that is as elusive as it is enchanting. Drawing on a rich tapestry of influences, from traditional folk to avant-garde jazz, the band takes listeners on a sonic journey that is as unpredictable as it is captivating.
From the hauntingly beautiful vocals of Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh to the intricate, mesmerising arrangements of Seán Mac Erlaine, This Is How We Fly have truly outdone themselves on this album. Tracks like "The Road to Clifden" and "The Blue Dress" showcase the band's ability to seamlessly blend genres, creating a sound that is uniquely their own.
However, for all its innovation, "Foreign Fields" does suffer from a lack of cohesion at times. The album's meandering structure can make it difficult to fully engage with on a first listen, and some tracks may leave listeners scratching their heads in confusion.
That being said, This Is How We Fly's adventurous spirit and undeniable talent shine through on every track of "Foreign Fields." Despite its flaws, this album is a bold and ambitious statement from a band that continues to push boundaries and challenge musical conventions. Love it or hate it, you can't deny the sheer audacity of This Is How We Fly.
