Our Take

Ah, the delightful duo of Mal Waldron and Gary Peacock have graced us with their musical musings once again in "First Encounter." This album is like a cozy evening by the fire with a glass of fine wine, except instead of wine, you're sipping on smooth jazz vibes.

From the moment the first note hits your ear drums, you can tell these two are pros. Waldron's piano playing is as intricate as a spider's web, weaving in and out of Peacock's bass lines with effortless precision. It's like watching a synchronized swimming routine, but with instruments instead of swimmers.

The chemistry between these two is undeniable, like a weird but endearing mix of peanut butter and jelly. Each track on "First Encounter" feels like a conversation between old friends, with Waldron and Peacock taking turns leading the way and bouncing off each other's energy.

But don't let the mellowness of this album fool you - there's a playful spirit lurking beneath the surface. It's like a cat playing with a ball of yarn, you never know what unexpected twists and turns are coming next.

So grab a cup of tea, settle in, and let Mal Waldron and Gary Peacock serenade you with their enchanting melodies on "First Encounter." It's a musical journey that's sure to leave you feeling satisfied, like a plate of perfectly cooked fish and chips on a rainy day in London. Cheers!

About the artist

Mal Waldron & Gary Peacock

MAL WALDRON With a piano style as smooth as a freshly poured pint of Guinness, Mal Waldron has been tickling the ivories since before you were even an idea in your parents' minds. Born in New York City in 1926, this jazz legend has played with some of the greats, including Billie Holiday and Charles Mingus. His playing is a unique blend of bebop and blues, with a touch of avant-garde thrown in for good measure. If you're looking for music that will make you feel like you're lounging in a smoky bar in Paris in the 1950s, look no further than Mal Waldron. GARY PEACOCK Gary Peacock is the bass player you didn't know you needed in your life. Born in Idaho in 1935, Peacock has been laying down the groove for over six decades. His playing is the perfect marriage of technical precision and emotional depth, like a well-crafted cup of English breakfast tea. Peacock has played with some of the biggest names in jazz, including Miles Davis and Keith Jarrett. His bass lines are the anchor that holds everything together, like a trusty umbrella in a London rainstorm. If you're looking for music that will make you tap your foot and nod your head in appreciation, Gary Peacock is your man.
