Our Take
Firehouse's self-titled debut album is a fiery mix of hair metal, power ballads, and questionable fashion choices. With its larger-than-life choruses and shredding guitar solos, it's like a time capsule straight from the late 80s. Opening track "Rock on the Radio" sets the tone for the album, with its anthemic hook and catchy riffs. Lead singer C.J. Snare's vocals soar over the top, reminiscent of a young Jon Bon Jovi on a sugar rush. It's cheesy, it's over-the-top, and it's absolutely glorious. Songs like "Shake & Tumble" and "Overnight Sensation" showcase the band's knack for crafting infectious melodies that stick in your head long after the album has finished. And let's not forget the power ballad "Love of a Lifetime," which has been known to induce spontaneous sing-alongs and lighter-waving moments at their live shows. However, the album does have its drawbacks. The production can be a bit dated at times, with the drum sound in particular feeling a bit flat. And some of the lyrics veer into cliché territory, with lines like "I'm in love with you, baby, and I know that love is true" feeling a bit cringeworthy. Overall, Firehouse's debut album is a fun, nostalgic trip back to the glory days of hair metal. It may not be the most groundbreaking record of all time, but it's guaranteed to put a smile on your face and have you reaching for your air guitar in no time.
