Our Take

After spending decades rocking out with their signature blend of heavy metal and power ballads, it seems like SAVATAGE has taken a detour down a rather questionable path with their album "Fight For The Rock." It's almost as if they're trying to reinvent themselves as soft rock crooners, but end up sounding more like a high school garage band playing at a mediocre talent show.

From the first track, it's clear that SAVATAGE has lost their edge, trading in blistering guitar riffs for lackluster solos that wouldn't even impress a beginner guitar player. The lyrics are equally cringeworthy, with cheesy lines about love and heartbreak that feel more suited for a bad romance novel than a metal album.

Even the production on "Fight For The Rock" feels like a step backwards, with muddy mixings and flat sound that does little to elevate the lackluster songwriting. It's as if SAVATAGE has forgotten everything they know about creating dynamic, engaging music, instead churning out an album that feels more like a desperate attempt to stay relevant in an ever-changing music industry.

In the end, "Fight For The Rock" falls flat, failing to capture the energy and excitement that fans have come to expect from SAVATAGE. It's a misstep for a band that has built a reputation for delivering hard-hitting, memorable music, and one that will likely leave fans scratching their heads in confusion. Formed in Tarpon Springs, Florida in 1979, Savatage is a band that defies all traditional genre boundaries. With their unique blend of progressive metal, power metal, and even elements of classical music, Savatage has carved out a distinct niche in the music industry. Led by brothers Jon and Criss Oliva, Savatage burst onto the scene in the 1980s with their debut album, "Sirens."
