Album Review: WOODEN WAND - Farmers Corner
WOODEN WAND's latest offering, Farmers Corner, is like a musical potluck that leaves you thoroughly satisfied but also wondering what the hell you just ate. The album is a smorgasbord of genres, with folk, blues, and even a dash of psychedelia thrown into the mix. It's like a Thursday night at your mate's house where everyone brings a dish - some hits, some misses, but overall an enjoyable experience.
Frontman James Jackson Toth's vocals weave through the tracks like a drunk uncle at a wedding, hitting highs and lows with equal flair. The instrumentation on Farmers Corner is just as eclectic, with banjos, slide guitars, and even what sounds like a kazoo making appearances. It's like a musical game of Cluedo - who killed the folk revival? Was it Colonel Mustard with the harmonica in the barn?
The standout track on the album has to be "Dambuilding," a slow-burning ballad that builds to a crescendo of finger-picked guitars and haunting harmonies. It's like a sunflower in a field of daisies - tall, majestic, and a little bit melancholic.
Overall, Farmers Corner is a delightful romp through the musical countryside, with plenty of surprises around every corner. WOODEN WAND may not be reinventing the wheel, but they're certainly giving it a good spin. So grab your pitchfork and join the fun - this farm is ripe for the picking.
