Our Take
Our Take
Ah, Viva Brother. The band that burst onto the scene with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer. Famous First Words, their debut album, is like a blast of stale air in a stuffy room. Filled with grandiose ambitions and anthemic choruses, it's a mix of Oasis's swagger and The Verve's melancholy.
From the opening track "New Year's Day" with its soaring guitars and sing-along chorus, it's clear that Viva Brother are aiming for the rafters. The problem is, they often miss the mark, coming off more like a high school drama production than a stadium-filling rock band.
Tracks like "Darling Buds of May" and "Electric Daydream" have their moments of brilliance, with catchy hooks and infectious energy. But too often, the lyrics feel like they were written by a teenager doodling in a notebook during detention.
That being said, there's something undeniably charming about Viva Brother's earnestness. They may not have the depth or sophistication of their Britpop predecessors, but they sure know how to make a catchy tune.
Overall, Famous First Words is a mixed bag. It's not going to revolutionize the music industry or change the face of rock and roll, but it's a fun listen for a sunny day with the windows down. Just don't expect to be blown away.

About the artist
Brother
VIVA BROTHER: The cheeky chappies of Britpop revival Hailing from Slough, the four lads that make up VIVA BROTHER burst onto the scene with their infectious energy and unabashed love for 90s indie-rock. Their debut album "Famous First Words" was soaked in nostalgia, with catchy hooks and anthemic choruses that had fans feeling like they were back at a Blur concert in '95. But don't let their retro vibes fool you, VIVA BROTHER have a modern edge that keeps them relevant in today's music scene. Their latest single "Darling Buds of May" is a perfect example of their ability to blend the old with the new, with its jangly guitars and infectious melodies. Lead singer Lee Newell's distinctive voice carries a hint of Liam Gallagher swagger, but with a touch of Johnny Marr charm thrown in for good measure. His lyrics are witty and self-deprecating, making him a lovable frontman that fans can't help but root for. Guitarist Sam Jackson, bassist Josh Ward, and drummer Frank Cole round out the band with their tight-knit chemistry and infectious energy on stage. Their live shows are a sight to behold, with the lads jumping and thrashing about like they're playing to a crowd of thousands at Glastonbury. If you're looking for a band that combines the best of Britpop with a fresh, modern twist, look no further than VIVA BROTHER. They may be a little rough around the edges, but that's all part of their charm. Love them or hate them, you can't deny their undeniable talent and infectious energy. Viva la VIVA BROTHER!
