Our Take
The Wallflowers have certainly taken a few knocks over the years, but with their latest offering, "Exit Wounds," they prove they're not out for the count just yet. Bursting onto the scene in the '90s with their radio-friendly hits, this band has always been a bit of a mixed bag - like your grandma's knitting - sometimes cosy and familiar, other times prickly and confusing. On "Exit Wounds," frontman Jakob Dylan continues to channel his inner Bob (yes, that Bob) with a gravelly voice that sounds like it's been through a few too many smoke-filled bars. The Wallflowers haven't strayed too far from their roots, delivering the kind of alt-rock Americana that made them famous in the first place. Tracks like "Maybe Your Heart's Not in It No More" and "Darlin' Hold On" showcase the band's knack for catchy melodies and heartfelt lyrics, while "Who's That Man Walking 'Round My Garden" adds a touch of whimsy to the mix. But it's not all sunshine and rainbows - "Roots and Wings" delves into darker territory with its gritty guitar riffs and brooding vocals. Overall, "Exit Wounds" may not reinvent the wheel, but it's a solid addition to The Wallflowers' discography. So grab a cuppa, put on your comfiest jumper, and let these tunes wash over you like a warm bath on a cold winter's night. Oops, sorry - did I say that out loud?
