Our Take

Every now and then, a tribute album comes along that makes you question the very nature of existence. "Evil Lives - A Tribute To Black Sabbath" is not one of those albums. In fact, it's about as subtle as a sledgehammer to the face, in the best possible way.

Various artists come together to pay homage to the godfathers of heavy metal, Black Sabbath, and they do it with all the finesse of a drunken elephant in a china shop. From doom-laden riffs to wailing vocals, this album is a sonic assault on the senses that will leave you headbanging until your neck feels like it's going to snap.

Highlights include a blistering rendition of "Paranoid" by a mysterious masked band known only as The Sabbathians, as well as a soul-crushing cover of "War Pigs" by the enigmatic doom metal outfit, The Witches of Coven.
