Our Take

Coldplay, the British band that seems to have the ability to simultaneously make you soar with their anthemic ballads and put you to sleep with their mellow tunes, has returned with their latest album, "Everyday Life." And let me tell you, this album is as eclectic as Chris Martin's wardrobe choices.

Kicking things off with the hauntingly beautiful track, "Sunrise," Coldplay sets the stage for a journey that takes listeners on a rollercoaster of emotions. From the soulful balladry of "Church" to the experimental sounds of "Everyday Life," this album is anything but predictable.

But it's not all sunshine and rainbows, as there are moments where Coldplay's attempts to branch out into new territory fall flat. Tracks like "Broken" and "Cry Cry Cry" feel like they're trying a bit too hard to be edgy, and end up falling short.

Despite these missteps, "Everyday Life" still manages to capture that classic Coldplay magic. The band's knack for crafting unforgettable melodies and poignant lyrics is still present, and tracks like "Orphans" and "Champion of the World" are sure to become instant classics.

Overall, "Everyday Life" is a mixed bag that showcases Coldplay at their best and their worst. While some tracks may leave you scratching your head, there are enough gems to make this album worth a listen. Coldplay may not have reinvented the wheel with this one, but hey, if it ain't broke, why fix it?

About the artist

Coldplay

Ah, Coldplay. The band that divides audiences like no other. Some praise them for their soaring anthems and emotive lyrics, while others deride them for being too bland and mainstream. Love them or hate them, there’s no denying Coldplay’s ability to craft heartwarming, stadium-filling tunes that stick in your head for days. Fronted by the eternally boyish Chris Martin, Coldplay burst onto the scene in the early 2000s with their debut album "Parachutes," featuring hits like "Yellow" and "Fix You." Since then, they have become one of the biggest bands in the world, selling out arenas and headlining festivals across the globe. But underneath their glossy pop facade, Coldplay have always had a knack for introspective songwriting and thought-provoking lyrics. Tracks like "The Scientist" and "Clocks" showcase a depth and emotional honesty that sets them apart from their mainstream peers. Of course, Coldplay’s success has also brought its fair share of criticism. Some accuse them of being too polished and formulaic, churning out hit after hit without taking any risks. But isn’t that what pop music is all about? Making people sing along to catchy melodies and feel-good choruses? Love them or hate them, Coldplay are undeniably talented musicians who have left an indelible mark on the music industry. So next time you hear "Viva la Vida" on the radio, why not crank up the volume and sing along? After all, life’s too short to be a music snob.
