Our Take

With the re-release of Moon Duo's "Escape: Expanded Edition" on glorious blue vinyl, one might expect a transcendental experience that takes you to another dimension. But alas, this reissue falls short of reaching those lofty heights.

The album kicks off with "Motorcycle, I Love You" which sets the tone for the rest of the record - a hypnotic blend of psychedelic rock and dream pop that will leave you feeling like you're floating on a cloud. But just when you think you've reached the peak of enlightenment, the album takes a detour into slightly more pedestrian territory with tracks like "In the Sun" and "Steam" which, while enjoyable, lack the same cosmic punch as the earlier cuts.

Moon Duo excel when they embrace their weird side, such as on the mind-bending "Roses in the Snow" or the pulsating "Stumbling 22nd St." These tracks showcase the band at their most inventive and adventurous, pushing the boundaries of what psychedelic music can be.
