Our Take
The Toy Dolls are back with their latest offering, Episode XIII, and it's as delightfully eccentric as ever. This punk rock trio has been kicking around since the late 70s, and they show no signs of slowing down. From the moment the opening track "Benny the Boxer" kicks in, you know you're in for a wild ride. Frontman Olga's distinctive vocals are as sharp as ever, belting out lyrics with all the verve and energy of a hyperactive teenager. The band's signature blend of catchy hooks and frenetic guitar riffs is on full display here, with tracks like "Chucks Revenge" and "The Devil Went Down to Scunthorpe" sure to get fans moshing in no time. But it's not all high-octane chaos. The Toy Dolls show their softer side on tracks like "Ernie Had a Hernia," a surprisingly touching ballad about a puppet with a medical condition. It's this ability to switch from punk rock madness to heartfelt emotion that sets the Toy Dolls apart from their peers. Episode XIII may not be breaking any new ground, but that's not the point.
