Our Take

Some may argue that the Black Eyed Peas went off the rails when they added Fergie to the mix, but Elephunk proves that this quirky quartet still knows how to make a banging record.

From the infectious beats of "Let's Get It Started" to the anthemic chorus of "Where Is the Love?," Elephunk is a masterclass in turning party tracks into social commentary. Fergie's sassy vocals add a pop edge to the group's signature hip-hop sound, creating a blend that is as addictive as it is unexpected.

With production from heavyweights like will.i.am and apl.de.ap, the album is a sonic rollercoaster that keeps you on your toes from start to finish. The infectious energy of tracks like "Hey Mama" and "Shut Up" will have you dancing in your living room like there's no tomorrow.

However, the album does have its missteps. "The APL Song" feels out of place amidst the party vibes of the rest of the record, and the overreliance on auto-tune can be grating at times. But overall, Elephunk is a triumph for the Black Eyed Peas, proving that they are more than just a one-hit wonder.

So grab your dancing shoes and turn up the volume - Elephunk is a wild ride that you won't want to miss. Pitchfork rating: 8.5/10.

About the artist

Black Eyed Peas

The Black Eyed Peas are the OG pioneers of the early 2000s music scene, blending hip-hop beats with pop sensibilities and infectious hooks. With their signature blend of rap, dance, and electronic elements, this multi-talented quartet has been lighting up the charts for over two decades. Formed in Los Angeles in 1995, the group initially consisted of will.i.am, apl.de.ap, and Taboo, before Fergie joined in 2003 to take their sound to the next level. Since then, they have become a global phenomenon, selling over 76 million records worldwide and winning six Grammy Awards along the way. Their breakthrough came with their third album, "Elephunk," which spawned hits like "Where is the Love?" and "Let's Get It Started," cementing their status as chart-topping superstars. From there, they continued to push boundaries with albums like "Monkey Business" and "The E.N.D.," which showcased their ability to evolve and stay ahead of the game. Despite some lineup changes over the years, the Black Eyed Peas have maintained their infectious energy and boundary-pushing sound. Whether you're a die-hard fan or a casual listener, there's no denying the impact this group has had on the music world. So, grab your glow sticks and get ready to dance, because the Black Eyed Peas are here to stay!
