Our Take
Our Take
If you're in the mood for some Latin jazz fusion that's as smooth as a glass of fine wine, look no further than GATO BARBIERI's El Pampero. With his signature saxophone skills and soulful melodies, Gato takes you on a musical journey that will have you tapping your feet and swaying to the rhythm in no time.
From the moment the first notes of "El Pampero" hit your ears, you know you're in for a treat. The lush arrangements and infectious grooves transport you to a sun-drenched beach, where the cocktails are cold and the music is hot. Gato's playful improvisations and shimmering vibrato add a touch of magic to each track, making it impossible not to get lost in the music.
Tracks like "Fiesta" and "Carnavalito" are a whirlwind of energy and excitement, with Gato's saxophone soaring over pulsating rhythms and fiery percussion. It's impossible not to get caught up in the sheer joy and exuberance of these samba-infused numbers.
But don't let the upbeat tempo fool you – there's plenty of depth and nuance to be found in El Pampero as well. Tracks like "Viva Emiliano Zapata" and "Encuentros" showcase Gato's versatility as a musician, with haunting melodies and intricate arrangements that will leave you spellbound.
In short, El Pampero is a vibrant and intoxicating album that showcases Gato Barbieri at the top of his game. So grab a glass of your favourite tipple, kick back, and let the music carry you away to a world of passion and beauty. Cheers!

About the artist
Gato Barbieri
Gato Barbieri was the Argentinian jazz saxophonist whose music was as wild and free-flowing as his trademark shock of curly hair. His career spanned over five decades, with Barbieri making his mark on the international jazz scene with his fiery and passionate playing style. Born in Buenos Aires in 1932, Barbieri began playing music at a young age and quickly established himself as a talented and innovative saxophonist. In the 1960s, he made the move to New York City, where he became a key figure in the avant-garde jazz movement, collaborating with the likes of Don Cherry and Carla Bley. Barbieri's breakthrough moment came in 1972 with the release of his album "Last Tango in Paris," which featured his evocative and emotive saxophone playing on the film's soundtrack. The album catapulted Barbieri to international fame and established him as a leading figure in the jazz world. Known for his distinctive blend of traditional jazz, Latin rhythms, and avant-garde experimentation, Barbieri's music was as unpredictable and exciting as the man himself. His live performances were legendary for their intensity and energy, with Barbieri's saxophone solos weaving in and out of intricate melodies and blistering improvisations. Sadly, Gato Barbieri passed away in 2016, leaving behind a rich musical legacy that continues to inspire and influence musicians around the world. His innovative approach to jazz and his fearless creative spirit have cemented his status as a true icon of the genre. Gato Barbieri may be gone, but his music lives on, a testament to his enduring legacy in the world of jazz.
