Our Take

Ah, Papa Roach - the band that refuses to fade into obscurity despite our sincerest wishes. With their latest offering, "Ego Trippin'," they continue to prove that they can churn out generic rock tunes with the best of them.

The album kicks off with the aptly titled track "Ego Trip," a blistering anthem that is sure to appeal to those who still think it's 2001. Lead singer Jacoby Shaddix's unmistakable sneer is in full force here, as he belts out lyrics that would make even the most seasoned angsty teenager cringe.

As the album goes on, Papa Roach struggles to find their footing, with tracks like "Narcissistic" and "Self-Indulgent" failing to make much of an impact. It's clear that the band is desperately clinging to a sound that has long since passed its sell-by date.

That's not to say that "Ego Trippin'" is a complete disaster - tracks like "Delusions of Grandeur" and "Pretentious" show glimmers of the band's former glory. But ultimately, the album feels tired and uninspired, like a desperate cry for relevance in a world that has long since moved on.

In conclusion, "Ego Trippin'" is an album that will only appeal to die-hard Papa Roach fans who refuse to acknowledge that the early 2000s are over. For the rest of us, it's best to leave this one on the shelf and stick to the classics.

About the artist

Papa Roach

PAPA ROACH: Nu-metal survivors or just another relic of the early 2000s? This Californian quartet has certainly seen their fair share of ups and downs in their nearly three-decade-long career. From their breakout hit "Last Resort" to their recent foray into more radio-friendly rock anthems, PAPA ROACH has managed to stay relevant in a constantly evolving musical landscape. Frontman Jacoby Shaddix is a charismatic force of nature, his gravelly vocals and erratic stage presence keeping fans coming back for more. The band's blend of heavy riffs, catchy hooks, and introspective lyrics has earned them a dedicated following of fans who are always eager to see what they come up with next. But are they truly deserving of their status as nu-metal royalty? Some critics argue that their sound hasn't evolved much since their early days, while others praise them for consistently delivering high-energy performances and infectious melodies. Regardless of where you stand on the PAPA ROACH debate, there's no denying that they have left an indelible mark on the rock music scene. So next time you find yourself in need of a rock fix, why not give PAPA ROACH a spin? You might just find yourself headbanging along to their infectious tunes and singing along to their anthemic choruses. Love them or hate them, PAPA ROACH is here to stay.
