Our Take
Our Take
A disco legend returns with a new album that aims to prove that age is just a number, but unfortunately, the result is more like a maths equation gone wrong. Giorgio Moroder's "E=MC²" may have all the elements for a funky good time, but the formula just doesn't add up in the end.
The album kicks off with the pulsating track "74 Is the New 24," a nod to Moroder's age and his attempt to stay relevant in today's music scene. However, the song feels more like a midlife crisis anthem than a banger that will get people grooving on the dance floor.
Throughout the album, Moroder experiments with different genres and collaborators, including Sia and Kylie Minogue, but the results are mixed at best. Tracks like "Deja Vu" and "Right Here, Right Now" lack the spark and energy that made Moroder's earlier work so iconic.
Despite its flaws, "E=MC²" does have some moments of brilliance. The standout track "Tom's Diner" featuring Britney Spears is a catchy, infectious tune that shows Moroder can still deliver the goods when he puts his mind to it.
In the end, "E=MC²" is a mixed bag of disco nostalgia and failed experimentation. While die-hard Moroder fans may find something to love here, the album ultimately falls short of recapturing the magic of his heyday. Sorry Giorgio, but this equation doesn't quite work out in your favor.
